Dynamic Web Sites

SWD Article – Dynamic Web Sites

In today’s climate of better visitor experience online, businesses are looking for another advantage to stand out from the crowd. One way to do this is a frequently changing web site. In the rest of this article, we will explore ways in which businesses can give the visitor a reason to return on a regular basis.

A dynamic web site is by name a site where content is decided upon when the visitor first visits a particular page. A good example of a dynamic web site is a site such as CNN.com or Amazon. On these web sites when the visitor first requests the page it is constructed based on many different variables. The Amazon web site will check to see if you are logged in and display listings based on your purchase and browsing history. CNN will display news, this will change as the day moves forward, and new stories break. This is fine for large companies that have deep pockets but how can a small business utilize dynamic content in a way that will have the desired impact?

One way is to offer the visitor a welcome message based on the time of day in their time zone: Good afternoon and welcome to XYZ Company. This will give the visitor a feeling that the web site is up to date and effort is put into running it. If you allow visitors to register then a welcome message with their name will help give the visitor a sense of belonging to the site.

Another way to utilize dynamic content without breaking the bank is to have a news section that you can update on a regular basis. This will require more effort on your part but it will give the visitor a reason to keep coming back to find out what you have to say. If you can keep your name in front of your visitors then they will come to you when they need your service. A good example of this is news from the industry that will benefit your clients and visitors. You could even incorporate this into a newsletter that will encourage visitors to return to your web site.

Dynamic web sites do not have to be massive in nature to be an effective way to utilize a web technology to enhance your online presence. I hope that I have given you a little to think on and spur your imagination to find ways to help your business grow.
